Nutella versus peanut butter

If there was a competition between Nutella and Peanut Butter, who do you think would win? When it comes to taste, I would definitely choose Nutella: chocolate and hazelnut combination is just too hard to beat. However, I try not to buy it too often because I have little self control when it comes to this luscious spread.

Last week during my 16 mile training walk for Avon Breast Cancer walk in May, Sarah informed me that Nutella is actually pretty comparable when it comes to calories to peanut butter. Now, I've known Sarah for only a few weeks and have no reason not to believe her, but I wanted to be absolutely sure! So I went to the store and bought a jar of Nutella: strictly for research purposes.

The label below is for peanut butter, the last two photos are for Nutella. OMG, Sarah was right! Turns out that the same serving size has the same amount of calories for both Nutella and PB. Nutella even has fewer calories from fat! (It does, however, have more sugar).

And so, now I will not feel as bad about eating Nutella. In fact, I had some of it last night with apple slices. It's also great on white bread with Granny Smith apple and toasted nuts as a sandwich. Or simply on a spoon!

  1. That's great because I could eat Nutella over peanut butter anyday. Once one of my friends was over and we were trying to think up a dessert pizza so he came up with a Nuttella Banana Pizza. It was really good too!

  2. I don't know, I really love peanut butter, maybe more than Nutella. I don't feel as satisfied after eating sweets. Especially if you are training for a walk. Wow, 16 miles. And here I am complaining about my sessions on the hamster wheel (treadmill)!!!

  3. When we were in France I couldn't get over how many different sizes of Nutella they had on their shelves and how much space they devoted to it in the supermarket. The French really love their Nutella. Thanks for permission to enjoy it.

  5. I was amaze when I came to United States that every single household always have peanut butter. I thought it was pretty strange. Where I grow up most likely you'll find nutella, not peanut butter. Now, if you come to my house, you'll be surprise that I very rare I'll have peanut butter, but I always have nutella, year round!

Btw, thanks for the nutrition fact info!

  6. Nutella all the way. Although, the mixture of the two is definitely good.

  7. I actually love both in equal amounts. While I love nutella (we actually have a mixed variety which is called Duo Penotti, do you know that? It's half milk chocolate and half white chocolate AND even better then Nutella!!) I also love peanut butter!

  9. I enjoy peanut butter, but I love Nutella.

It is one of the best things we get at Costco.

I will eat it on a spoon or on a flour tortilla.

I am also working on cooking with it.

Truly one of the best things in the food universe.

  10. Everyone here is ignoring the fact that peanut butter is far more healthy than nutella. Look at more than the calories and you'll have a better idea of what is going in your body.
