I'm the advertisers' dream: I see something in a commercial and I want to try it. For the last few weeks I've been wanting to try McD's new Angus burgers: alas, the burger was very disappointing. The fries, luckily, were amazing. Same happened with Au Bon Pain's watermelon lemonade: so not worth the $4!
Then last night when I was watching Top Chef, they briefly mentioned Spam. When I woke up today I went across the street to buy Diet Pepsi and eggs and then spotted a container of Spam. We used to eat Spam in Moscow and use the leftover can as a planter ;) Oh the memories. I picked up a container of Spam and decided to make Spam & Egg Breakfast sandwich.
All you need to do is brown a few slices of Spam, saute some white onions and make one egg over easy. Layer all ingredients on a piece of bread, add a bit of cayenne and fresh basil. You are ready to eat!
Olga, we had to eat Spam during the war years when I was a child. I know that it's very popular in some places (Hawaii) but I ate a lifetimes worth 60+ years ago:-). I bequeath my share of Spam to whomever wants it. Have a great day.
ReplyDeleteI haven't eaten Spam in years. Next time I go to the store and see it, I'll buy a can. I want to try your recipe, which looks and sounds really good. ;-)

ReplyDeleteOh MG, when I was a kid, my mom used to make this on a special occasion. back then in Indonesia, this was a very expensive thing, and was a fancy thing to cook. So funny that I never bought this since I came to the U.S. Not sure why, but you know what? I am going to, because looking at that photos of yours make my mouth water so much. I am going to buy this, and make something.
ReplyDeleteMy wife doesn't like like cold spam, but she loves fried spam and eggs.
ReplyDeleteI grew up eating fried bologna sandwiches with eggs and fried spam for breakfast bring back memories.
Hey, what's spam in Russian? I can't remember if I had it there.
ReplyDeleteMy neighbour would be over to your place in a flash sniffing that Spam. Me, I ate enough of it when I was growing up and swore when I had a say over what was put in front of me, It would not be Spam!! Good picture though!!
ReplyDeleteI ate so much Spam growing-up. I laughed out loud when I saw that you bought a can of Spam and fried it with eggs! I used to eat it all the time. I can't say that I have had spam in over 30 years!
ReplyDeleteJust last night, we were talking about eating Spam growing-up. What a coincidence to see it here on your blog today.
I think spam brings back memories for everyone. =) A lot of the foreign exchange students at our school from Korea, eat a sandwich like this everyday for lunch. It always looks so tasty!
ReplyDeleteI love that you woke up in the morning to buy Diet Pepsi and eggs :)
ReplyDeleteHope you had a great weekend, cheers!
I personally find Spam pretty scary and have never eaten it, but gee whiz you make it look yummy! My husband eats the French equivalent - it's his guilty pleasure. Wonder if I should offer this to him?
ReplyDelete*sigh* I will always have a soft spot for Spam. It's just so freaking good! hehe.
ReplyDeleteCongrats, you made Spam un-disgusting. You have no idea how surprised I am. This looks amazing and I'm no fan of Spam and eggs sunny-side up.
ReplyDeleteGenius.
I love Spam!! My friends all make fun of me and think it's so gross... until I make them an egg and spam breakfast sandwich! They then proceed to tell me that's the only spam they'll ever eat... is fried with an egg. Lol.
ReplyDeleteI always have a can of spam in my pantry. It's my college staple. :P
